All of us have been gifted in some way. Some have the gift of singing, some the gift of teaching or leadership, some the gift of listening, etc. These gifts are not meant to be hoarded but shared and used to bless others around us. All of us share one gift: the gift of time.
When I’ve given my time to others, whether it’s teaching a Sunday School class, leading the cookie drive for a Girl Scout troop, or helping to organize TCRA’s Silent Auction, I have never failed to experience what the late author and humorist Barbara Johnson called “boomerang joy.”
My latest experience with boomerang joy and TCRA has been serving on the Scholarship and Mentoring Committee. Through the committee, I became a mentor to two students who are studying through online courses to become court reporters. Most of my commitment has consisted of proctoring tests, answering questions e-mailed to me and, hopefully, offering encouragement. They are always so thankful, and I have never failed to be blessed by my contact with these students.
I am looking forward to this year’s convention and “Serving Together” with fellow reporters around the state to make our association the best it can be!

I am one of the students that Martha is mentoring. Martha has been so very helpful and has encouraged me more than she knows. She has been very kind and helpful and I so appreciate all she has done for me.
