Take a Moment to Look Inside Yourself

by Kathy Elmore on March 4, 2010

Danny Thomas said, “Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” Those words ring as true today as they ever have, especially in light of the devastation in Haiti. What would those poor people do without the tireless commitment of thousands of volunteers?

We all have it in us to give back for our good fortune in being blessed with such a rewarding profession. I was very involved in my church back in Florida running the annual church festival, being social committee chair, serving as a lector and on the leadership council, and also singing in the choir.

When we moved to Tennessee, I truly missed the camaraderie with all the other church volunteers with whom I had worked for so many years. Please take a moment to look inside yourself and contemplate where your talents lie that you can share with others in need. I promise you, you will be glad you did!

“Volunteers are seldom paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless” – author unknown
