TEACHER’S CORNER: Winter 2007

When the students of TCC returned to school in 2007 after an extended break, they came back to classroom walls loaded with quotations. Hopefully they found inspiration from some, if not a chuckle from others.
Here’s one of my favorites:
A goal without a plan is just a wish.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Duh, right?
Well, what’s your plan? If you don’t have one, sure sounds like you’re wishing to get your next 180 Q&A or your next 160 Lit or your next -- whatever. Wishing doesn’t sound like a great plan to me.
So how do you start your plan?
1. Identify your goals.
2. Write them down.
3. Carefully map your course to that goal. *Think hard about this. Brainstorm all the different and fresh ways that can get you there.
4. Write it down.
Okay. Now what?
To stay focused, keep your written plan close by, perhaps written in your practice book or taped on the wall near your study area.
To stay motivated, I suggest taping your goal to your machine. However, if you really don’t want that staring you in the face, find a quote or a picture that inspires you.
So get to it already!
